Funding
You will receive technical equipment, manpower and editing equipment free of charge from the Film Workshop if you obtain full support. But even if you produce on full support terms, you may have a number of expenses that you need to cover.
Some aspiring film directors borrow 30,000 kroner (5,000 US$) in the bank every time they want to make a short fiction film, but to others such an investment may be a little too much - even with a promising future as a film director.
However, it is possible to obtain subsidies from various foundations which administer the so-called blank tape funds. On each videotape and CD sold the Danish state has placed a levy because most consumers use videotapes to record films from TV. That way some artists are "cheated" out of part of their income. And that has led to the creation of the blank tape funds, which a number of trade unions and other organisations are hired to distribute.
Film- og TV-arbejderforeningen (The Film and TV Workers' Union)
Individual funds are distributed for:
- Cinematographers
- Art directors/production designers
- Scriptwriters
- Editors
- Directors

Dansk Journalistforbund (The Union of Danish Journalists)
Each year in September the Copyright Fund of the Union of Danish Journalists allocates the blank tape funds it administers.
The organisation COPY-DAN provides the Union's Copyright Fund with a share of the money raised via the levy on blank video and audio tapes etc. Some of this money is distributed in the form of grants to anybody who is able to substantiate that they work within the Union's organisational field of radio, TV and video production.
The grants must be used for:
- projects which offer substantial and innovative contributions to the dissemination of news and information as well as documentaries and short films
- production of films and video programmes which have a cultural purpose and whose publishing and distribution costs are not likely to be covered in other ways
- in special cases as support for other projects and purposes of a general cultural nature - among these educational purposes

The specific terms can be obtained from the Union of Danish Journalists.
