Århus Film Workshop's primary goal is to identify and cultivate new film talents. It means that people with good ideas for making fiction, documentary, experimental or animation film can apply for support.
Please notice: It's possible for anyone situated in Denmark or abroad to apply for support.
Production Support
Procedure:
Fill in an application form by hand. You may print it out, have it mailed to you or get it at the reception. Deadline is the first Monday of every month at 12 o'clock noon (except in July). The Project Committee gets together the following Monday and selects the applications which will receive partial or full support. Within a few days the applicants will receive the result by mail. The following possibilities exist: support, reasoned refusal, support for script development and invitation to apply again. If support is granted a meeting is arranged, the contract signed, a primary contact person from the Workshop chosen and a production plan is set up.
Full support consists in script development and primary production, technical assistance and use of equipment as well as counselling all the way through. In certain cases Århus Filmværksted may assist in supplementary financial support, but apart from that we don't contribute financially to the productions. Part of the deal is that it gives Århus Filmværksted the right to show the film in non-commercial venues such as local TV, film festivals etc.
The Workshop continuously arranges and takes part in various developing projects such as JyskFilm, 20 Minutes in Denmark, Youth Film Camp etc.
Århus Filmværksted is an open video and film workshop which is organised as an association. Membership is a condition for receiving support from the workshop. An annual general assembly elects part of the board (other members being representatives of the local cultural and media world) and the Project Committee which evaluates applications for support (other members being elected by the employees of the workshop).
The Workshop's economy is based on municipal support, funds from The Danish Film Institute, various foundations and projects, membership fees, profits from its own productions and from renting out equipment.
